Mrs. Block has joined the corporate team of the firm from the Muscat, Oman, office of Trowers & Hamlins. She graduated from City University, London in 1996 with an upper second class honours degree in Business Law, finishing first in her class for two of her three years there. After successfully completing her articles with the international law firm Herbert Smith she qualified into the Banking and Finance Division and worked there for a further 18 months before relocating to San Francisco in 2001.
Whilst in California Mrs Block worked in the Commerce and Finance team of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and successfully completed the California Bar exams at her first attempt and was admitted to practice as an attorney in California.
In 2003 Mrs. Block returned to London and joined Trowers & Hamlins in order to pursue her interest in Islamic Finance of which Trowers & Hamlins were market leaders. Emma relocated to Oman in the Middle East in 2005 to become part of the Banking and Project Finance team of the Trowers office in Muscat.
Whilst there she worked on a wide variety of financing matters which ranged from setting up banks and drafting all of their standard form documentation, to working for various power companies with respect to the privatisation of the electricity and water sector in the country, to being retained counsel for the Central Bank of Oman.
Mr. Ritchie expressed his delight on behalf of the firm to have someone of Mrs. Block’s qualifications and experience joining their corporate and commercial team.
Justice Henderson examined the papers before him and declared Mrs. Block to be a good and qualified candidate. After she signed the rolls, he welcomed her and reminded her of her obligations as an officer of the court. He also commented that she was the first person he admitted who had practiced in Oman.
Mrs. Block is very excited to have joined Charles Adams Ritchie & Duckworth and to assist with the continued growth of their corporate and banking practice. She is also delighted to have moved to such a beautiful island which she hopes her and her family will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
