Ladies continue to hoop it up indoors

Women are squarely in the middle of local basketball’s shift indoors.

Proof of that can be seen in the continuation of the women’s league.

The Cayman Islands Basketball Association would like to remind the public that the CIBA Women’s Indoor League continues to play into next month.

There was some confusion over the women not playing as the senior men’s league (for those 40 years and over) was unable to get going as scheduled.

However women’s games are still ongoing and feature some of the island’s most exciting teams.

Three squads make up the indoor league in the Lady Heels, Esso Blazettes and (essentially the Silver Bullets).

For the most part the teams consist of the same players who starred on those squads throughout the year.

Back in March the Lady Heels made it to the finals of the national women’s league after finishing second in the league.

Esso finished third in that league with a .500 record (and lost to the Lady Heels in the first round of the playoffs) while the squad were last with one win.

By the end of the month the Lady Heels were able to walk away with some silverware as the club won the inaugural Women’s Cup.

The squad beat in the final of the competition. Once again Esso lost in the knock-out round of that competition to the Heels.

Games take place every Sunday at 3pm at the Arts and Recreation Center at Camana Bay.

Two games have already taken place in the league with Esso beating the Lady Heels on July 26 and taking on Esso last Sunday.

The next game on the schedule is this Sunday when the winless Lady Heels take on
