Increase fuel duties

I have long thought that duty on petrol and diesel would provide government with a steady, easily-collected source of revenue just as it does in most other developed countries.

To implement a substantial increase in this duty would immediately increase government revenue and while affecting everybody on the Islands in one way or another it would be not be seen as targeting any particular segment of the community.

At the same time, consideration should be given to a much larger duty rate on all alcoholic beverages on the basis that those who can afford expensive wines and spirits have larger discretionary incomes at their disposal.
