Uncle Bills, a leader for 45 years

Uncle Bill’s was started in October 1964 by William McTaggart in the old family house on Fort Street in George Town, which is now a parking lot across from the Appleby Clifton House.

When he invested his life savings in 20 gallons of paint, 10 windows and a Philip Morris distributorship, he never imagined that the business would one day be a leader in those fields.

He later went into a full range of marine supplies, hardware and appliances. In 1980, Uncle Bill’s moved to 343 Eastern Avenue where they cater to the do- it-yourself enthusiast and the contractor.

Daughter Patty Sue McTaggart of Uncle Bill’s said: “Our mission is to provide our customers with quality products and services backed by competitive pricing and excellent customer service.”

Uncle Bill also ventured into toys when he opened Uncle Bill’s Toyland on the second level of the family home.

Ms McTaggart said: “Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I am excited to bring back for the third year now Uncle Bill’s” Christmas Wonderland.

Uncle Bill’s offers premium products for  customers, including Dewalt and Black and Decker power tools and accessories, Glidden Paint, Closetmaid Storage Solutions, a wide variety of lawn and garden products, and Maruyama commercial lawn equipment.

It also offers furniture for every room in the house as well as outdoor furniture. And for those who want to get some exercise, it also has a wide stock of bicycles.

For its 45th anniversary, the store will welcome customers through the doors for an entire month of promotions, sales events as well as raffles, giveaways and enter to wins.

The Caymanian Compass will feature an October anniversary flyer with details of the month of specials.

“I am extremely fortunate to be involved in the family business that my dad began so many years ago, I am incredibly proud of him for his insight and his aspirations.

“I will strive along with my brother William to continue the success of our family business. We have great plans that are in progress for our future.  I would like to thank our valued customers for their support throughout the past 45 years and we are looking forward to serving them for another 45 years,” said Ms McTaggart.
