Antigua and Barbuda are the champions of the NAGICO Leeward Islands One-Day Tournament, following their victory by six wickets over St Maarten.
Playing at the Carib Lumber Park in St Maarten, the Antiguans rattled up 231-4 off 44.4 overs in reply to 227-8 off 50 overs, made by the home team.
Orlando Peters was the batting hero of the champs, with 83, including eight fours a six, while Gavin Williams hit 67 from 81 balls to take them to a comfortable win. Mali Richards, son of Viv, chipped in with 26, while John Eugene was the best bowler for St Maarten with 2-36.
Earlier in the day, Anil Persaud top-scored for the home side with 54 off 89 balls, including six fours boundaries. Eugene completed a good allround match making 46 off 72 balls, while Sherwin Peters added 29 to bolster the score.
The spinners did the damage for Antigua with Justin Athanaze (3-46) and Anthony Martin (2-38) causing problems. Experienced seamer Wilden Cornwall snatched 2-48 to restrict the batsmen.
The victory gave Antigua and Barbuda their sixth title in seven seasons.
