Many hands make light work. That statement proves true in all phases of life and sports and carries over to netball.
As local women’s netball gets rolling it is pertinent to have as many hands on deck to help the sport.
Thus the Cayman Islands Netball Association is looking for enthusiastic and dynamic persons to join its netball volunteer core for the 2009-10 season.
In an effort to enhance and develop the sport of netball in the Cayman Islands, the association would like to expand on the activities that it has on its calendar this season so the need for more volunteers will be greater.
The association knows that volunteers are the backbone of all events. Without the dedication and continuous support from the volunteers currently involved, netball events would not be successful.
All passionate individuals who want to contribute to the youth in the community are invited to help the association and be a part of a dynamic team dedicated to Cayman netball.
Remember it’s all about the growth of local sports and everyone is equally important.
Some of the more technical volunteer positions the association would like to see filled are game statisticians (responsible for keeping track of specific stats dealing with passing and shooting), time keepers (responsible for monitoring the time at the start and end of halves) and scorers and scoreboard operators (responsible for updating the scores).
There are also more general duties the association would like help with including concession stand attendant (responsible for manning a booth with refreshments) and gate volunteers (responsible for manning the entrance to the court).
Volunteer coordinator Orvin Palacio talked about the need for people at those positions.
‘Some of the posts, such as scorers and scoreboard operators, will see training on hand (or on the job if you will) at games and whatnot.
‘Other positions, such as concession stand attendant and gate volunteer, are new initiatives meant to add more professionalism.
‘At the end of the day it’s all about making the proceedings spectator-friendly and attractive.’
The association asks that all potential volunteers be at least 14 years-old as of 1 January 2010.
