Customs staff excel

Another of
Customs’ employees has reinforced a commitment to the Department by furthering
her education.

Sacha Rankine recently completed an associate’s
degree in accounting from the University
of Phoenix.

Ms Rankine
was promoted to senior customs officer in March 2008 and is now an integral
part of the Fraud Unit.

She is
using her new skills to supervise the daily activities of junior Customs staff;
investigate and process all offences committed under the Customs Law and other
related laws and liaises with the Legal Department for court proceedings.

She also actively
plans and conducts special operations to intercept persons smuggling drugs and
commercial fraud.

“I
encourage my fellow colleagues to further their education and excel in their
careers and individual lives. Knowledge is power and I will continue to strive
for success,” she concluded.

She thanks
her parents for providing support; the Collector of HM Customs, Carlon Powery,
Deputy Collector Dale Ramoon and Assistant Collector Trevor Williams, who she
said always made sure that she was ahead of the game and provided encouragement
when she needed an extra boost.”

Assistant
Customs Collector Mitchell Welds commended Ms Rankine on her accomplishment.
“Congratulations to Sacha on successful completion of her associates degree.
This achievement is a result of hard work, determination and commitment. I wish
for her every success in her future endeavours and may God add his blessings to
everything she decides to pursue.”
