Instructor will raise levels

The Cayman Islands Sailing Club is
running a sailing instructor course until Sunday.

The course is being run by an
instructor from the International Sailing Federation and is funded by the
Cayman Islands Olympic Association.

Participants are learning how to
run safe, fun sailing lessons for beginners. The only prerequisite is basic
sailing experience in small boats.

Sailing is really flourishing in
Cayman with many school kids taking it up. There is even an Olympic qualifier
being held here next month.

Michael Weber, CISC Sailing
Director, notes that the course is a perfect way to increase participation in
sailing for young persons.

“For many teenagers who like
sailing but aren’t interested in racing, working as an instructor is a great
way to stay involved in the sport.”

Weber also emphasized that the
course is an ideal professional development opportunity for teachers.

“We are really encouraging
teachers, especially physical education teachers, to take the course so that
they can assist with coaching their students.”
