There are a lot of great female
basketball players in Cayman.
A lot of them are on display in the
ongoing Cayman Islands Real Estate Brokers Association National Women’s Basketball League.
In the coming weeks the Cayman
Islands Basketball Association hopes to highlight them and their star
performances over the course of the league.
The player of the week this time
around is Dionne Anglin. The tall and trim Center plays for the Dominos Lady
Heels at the Arts and Recreation Center in Camana
Up until last week Anglin had a
tough time of things. She spent most of the previous women’s
league on the injured list. Yet the former rebounding champion, most
valuable player and scoring champion has come back hungry to reclaim her titles.
In her team’s first two games this
season Anglin has been the undisputed star. She posted an impressive 19
points, 24 rebounds, six steals and four blocks against Welly’s Cool Spot.
Thanks to Anglin’s efforts the Lady
Heels won that match easily 74-49. Three other players on the Heels reached
double digits with Sarah Kidd being the second-highest scorer with 13 points
and six steals.
Welly’s meanwhile boasted only one
player in double figures, namely Amber Watson. She had 10 points, seven
rebounds and four steals.
In their second game Anglin again
put up another impressive performance. She produced 20 points, 23 rebounds,
five steals and two blocks against the Silver Bullets.
Domino’s won that game in
impressive fashion 49-35. Once again Anglin had plenty of help as two other
players were in double digits in scoring.
Joanne Remillard had 12 points,
four rebounds and two steals. Kamilla Nagy had 11 points, eight rebounds and
addition to her team sitting atop the league, Anglin currently leads the league
in points, rebounds and blocks.
