New vet association set up

Veterinarians in Cayman have joined
forces to set up an association of professionals who treat the islands’
animals.

The Cayman Islands Veterinary
Medical Association held its inaugural meeting, open to all resident
veterinarians, earlier this month.

The association said it was
committed to promoting the veterinary medical profession within the Cayman
Islands and the Caribbean in order to improve animal and public health.

A steering committee was appointed
in September 2009 to develop the framework for the association.

Tiffany Durzi, acting chair of the
association, said she was pleased with the turnout of the first meeting.

“The association
has been a long time coming in the Cayman Islands.  CIVMA will facilitate closer communication
between veterinary professionals in Cayman, resulting in higher standards of
animal care and welfare,” she said.
