If fast-paced observational comedy
with an autobiographical twist is your bag, then get ready to laugh your chops
off at the comic genius of Ricky Cruz and John Vargas.
The fast-paced, larger-than-life Miami-based
comics come with great pedigrees to lead the pack in a new comedy venture by
the Overtime Sports Lounge. The venue is to host two, twice-weekly comedy acts
starting with Cruz and Vargas on Monday and Tuesday, 22 and 23 March, at 9pm.
Headliner Cruz, a seasoned Latino
performer who has appeared on Comedy Central’s Motherload, HBO’s Galavision and
AMC Channel’s Date Night, will take to the mic for 45 minutes after opener
Vargas’ 25-minute set.
Voted Best New Comedian at the 2008
South Beach Comedy Festival, Cruz has more than enough neck and talent to give
a hilarious 45-minute set.
Vargas, who has worked with some of
the biggest names on the US comedy circuit including Jimmy Fallon and Alan
Grier, is also geared up to set Cayman audiences alight.
Finalist for the Las Vegas Lucky 21
Competition in 2007 and a regional finalist for the South Beach Comedy Festival
two years running, Vargas will bring his distinct style of comedy to raise the
roof at the Overtime.
Topical, quick-witted, edgy with
plenty of observational bite to add street smarts to their sets, the venue’s
managing director Rion Mohammed, was quick to book the pair. Of the new
venture, he said: “I am reintroducing
the Comedy Show… because it was a huge success in the past when my brother Rory
did it at the Chameleon Club & Lounge.”
$20 at the door. For a table at the VIP lounge, pre-book by calling Rion, at
