Art @ Castle II exhibition and art
sale staged by the Visual Arts Society last weekend attracted artwork from over
The society’s chairman, Dora
Williams, said: “Art @ Castle II is the VAS annual art show where all members
have the chance to exhibit their art works. Our motto is “art for everyone” and
our members include professional artists as well as hobbyists and beginners.
The show was open to all and included a diversity of theme, talent and media.”
She said that it had been “a
satisfying experience to see the members’ work rise to [such] a high standard
[which was] due to the many courses and workshops which the society has
Staged at the Watler House in the
grounds of Pedro St. James, the show’s most strongly represented categories
were mixed media, oils and acrylics. In all more than 64 pieces were displayed.
Mrs. Williams said that the
“presence of abstracts was… new,” and welcomed the submission of different
art forms at the show.
Among the artwork were a number of batiks as
well as watercolours, prints and pencil drawings.
Urqhart, director of the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands attended the
three-day show, she said: “The Visual Arts Society annual sale and exhibition
is one of the most established art fairs on the island and it’s heartening to
see that it’s still going strong so many years on.
was an impressive and diverse collection of work this year by both established
artists and emerging talent. The VAS board, all of whom are volunteers, must be
commended for their efforts in continuing to provide opportunities for the
local arts community.”
