Totti excluded

Italian national team coach
Marcello Lippi has named his 30-man provisional squad for next month’s World
Cup in South Africa, and AS Roma star Francesco Totti did not make the cut.

Totti, 33, has not played for Italy
since the 2006 World Cup final in Berlin, which Italy won over France in a
penalty shootout.

But many in Italy thought that
Lippi might recall Totti, who has 14 goals for Roma in Series A this season in
an effort to add a badly needed touch of creative genius to his team.

Italy opens the World Cup against
Paraguay on June 14 in Cape Town.
