Ricky Ponting arrived in England
last week and insisted: “Our Ashes build-up starts now.”
The Aussie skipper warned his
players want to repeat their revenge act of four years ago when they thrashed
England 5-0. Ahead of the one-day series with England, which started at the
Rose Bowl on Tuesday, Ponting said: “We are keeping one eye on the Ashes.
Everything we do from now will be about playing the best cricket we can. We’ve
absolutely the same mentality as 2006.”
Despite the lop-sided result of the
2006-07 Ashes series, which owed much to off-the-field pressures in the England
camp, England’s win in the 2009 Ashes series ensures much speculation and
anticipation of the return this winter.
