Miss Cayman meet-and-greet

The Miss Cayman committee has announced that the annual pageant is being relaunched and is back on track for 2010 after a year’s break.

Would-be contestants are invited to attend the preliminary Meet & Greet session scheduled tonight (Wednesday, 14 July) at Abacus restaurant in Camana Bay, from 6 pm. The deadline to submit applications is 21 July.

This year’s pageant themed “Beauty with a Purpose” will be held Saturday, 25 September at the Lions Centre and those eligible to enter must be high school leavers aged 18 to 25 years old. Applicants must also be single, of good character and possess charm, poise and personality.

For an application form, further information about the pageant’s full selection criteria and a comprehensive schedule of pre-pageant events, visit www.misscaymanislands.ky, the Ministry of Tourism or the pageant’s Facebook page.

The newly-appointed Committee chairperson, Lynn Bodden-Smatt, said: “Earning the title of Miss Cayman Islands is a major accomplishment for any young woman fortunate enough to win it.

“That individual gains a fully-paid educational sponsorship, a car and many other wonderful prizes in addition to having one of the most memorable experiences of her lifetime.” She explained that the competition’s theme will have contestants selecting “a charity as their platform and work with that organisation to foster public awareness and generate private sector support for its cause.”

Pre-pageant events in the Miss Cayman Islands calendar include the Platform Launch on 21 August and the Minister’s Ball, a black-tie fundraiser, on 18 September.

Since the Ministry of Tourism holds the franchise for the Miss World and Miss Universe competitions; the winner of Miss Cayman 2010/11 will represent the Cayman Islands at the  2010 Miss World pageant on 23 October, in Sanya, China, and at the Miss Universe competition 2011 in Vietnam.
