Boost for youth empowerment

The Cayman Islands Youth
Development Consortium’s summer programme is getting a boost from Ernst &
Young.

The firm is helping to sponsor the
Fearless Xtreme Leadership & Prevention Camp and Student Impact Training,
programmes which provide young people with the opportunity to enhance their
strengths, help them become contributing members of the community and shape
their own futures.

“We are delighted and most grateful
for this contribution, not only because it has come at a time that we most need
it for this programme, but because this gesture continues to say that there are
corporations that value our youth,” said Consortium Director Sylvia Wilks.

The summer sessions tackle issues
like violence, substance abuse, and teen pregnancy. The sessions will also
include workshops on making the right choices, with campers taking part in
team-building exercises.

The summer programme also has
special sessions for parents and the community at large.

The camps form part of the consortium’s
year-round work on engaging young people through weekend, school-based, and
after-school programmes.
