Familiar faces in new places

Fall is here and your favorite TV shows
will be back over the next few weeks. Count on new faces and some surprising
changes. Here’s what you can expect:

Vanessa
Williams (Ugly Betty) moves into Wisteria Lane as neighbor Renee Paul on the
season premiere of ABC’s Desperate Housewives (Sept. 26). Brian Austin Green
comes onboard as a hunky handyman who takes an interest in Bree (Marcia Cross).

Stars of last
season’s failed Melrose Place find new homes on other CW shows. Katie Cassidy
becomes enmeshed in the lives of the Upper East Siders on Gossip Girl (Monday
at 9 p.m. ).  Shaun Sipos pops up on Life Unexpected
(at 8 p.m. Tuesday), as will Emma Caulfield (Anya, Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Olivia
Wilde takes a leave of absence from Fox’s House (Sept. 20). Amber Tamblyn (Joan
of Arcadia) temporarily takes her place as a young medical student. William
Baldwin plays Adam’s (Peter Krause) boss on NBC’s “Parenthood” (Tuesday at 10
p.m. on WHDH, Ch. 7). Melina Kanakaredes is out and Sela Ward (“Once &
Again”) is in on CBS’ “CSI: NY” (Sept. 24).

John
Stamos plays Emma’s dentist boyfriend on Fox’s “Glee” (Sept. 21). Katheryn
Winnick is Booth’s new girlfriend on Fox’s Bones (Sept. 23). James Tupper
(Mercy) serves as the trauma counselor trying to help Seattle Grace staffers
deal with last season’s shooting spree on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy (Sept. 23). Kim
Raver, as Dr. Teddy Altman, is now a series regular.

She’s
one of many guest stars getting a promotion. Eric Christian Olsen’s Marty Deeks
joins the cast of CBS’ “CIS: Los Angeles (Sept. 21). Naya Rivera (as Santana),
Heather Morris (Brittany) and Boston comedian Mike O’Malley (Kurt’s dad Burt)
have been bumped to series regulars on Glee.” Caterina Scorsone, who guested as
McDreamy’s sister Dr. Amelia Shepherd, joins ABC’s Private Practice (Sept. 23)
full time. She’ll be a big part of the Grey’s”/“Practicecrossover (Oct. 7). The
folks at One Tree Hill drop by Life Unexpected (Oct. 12).

A
few familiar faces are also back. As Desperate Housewives’  May finale revealed, Mark Moses returns as
the nefarious Paul Young. John Schneider reprises his role as Jonathan Kent for
the 10th and final season of CW’s Smallville (Sept. 24).

ABC’s
“Brothers & Sisters (Sept. 26) picks up a year after the car crash finale
that killed Robert (Rob Lowe). Emily VanCamp (Rebecca) and Balthazar Getty
(Tommy) have also departed the series. A.J. Cook’s J.J. exits CBS’ Criminal
Minds” (Sept. 22).

A
slew of big names pepper the dial. Pop sensation Justin Bieber shows up on the
season premiere of CBS’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Sept. 23). Jennifer
Aniston is Jules’ (Courteney Cox) therapist on the season premiere of ABC’s
Cougar Town (Sept. 22). Betty White plays a professor on the season premiere of
NBC’s Community (Sept. 23). Michael J. Fox guests on CBS’ The Good Wife (Sept.
21) as a litigator who faces Alicia (Julianna Margulies) in court. Timothy
Olyphant (Justified) appears as Pam’s ex-boyfriend on NBC’s The Office (Sept.
23).
