Archie’s Place on Shedden Road
could close on 1 October.
“Effective 1st October 2010, the
licenses will be held in abeyance and remain in abeyance until the premises are
brought up to standard and to the satisfaction of the board,” reads the
decision taken at the meeting of the liquor licensing board on Thursday, 16
A meeting between the licensing
board and representatives of licensee Charles Arch Dixon was set for Tuesday,
21 September to discuss the issues.
The bar had been on probation since
March. It was put under supervision by the board following a series of
complaints, including some at a meeting in March from Beryl Ramoon of the Sea
Inn Sports Bar and Restaurant, who expressed concerns about Archie’s Place
customers parking in her spot. She also said that there was a litter problem
and an increase in disturbances and loud music.
Archie’s Place manager Treva
MacIntosh said at the time that customers went back and forth between bars and
if customers walked across the road with their trash, he had no way of stopping
them. The parking spots outside Sea Inn were inadequate even for the businesses
in that complex, he said, with ten outlets and only seven parking spaces.
The board turned down requests by
Mr. MacIntosh to extend the licensed premises to include the use of an outdoor
patio and to operate until 2am Saturdays.
