Top chefs mix it up

A unique event at The Ritz-Carlton
Grand Cayman will take the chefs at some 20 of Cayman’s favourite restaurants
out of the relative safety of the kitchen and into a rather unusual location –
your table.

On 4 November, in the ballroom of
The Ritz-Carlton, each chef will entertain a table of 12 guests, with each
table being served an exclusive three-course menu created by the chef. The
evening will not only boast the best in local culinary talent, but also
world-renowned Chef Eric Ripert from the three Michelin star rated Le Bernardin
as keynote speaker.

The event, dubbed Out of the
Kitchen, will serve as the awards gala for the Cayman Culinary Society’s Awards
of Excellence and Trade Show, which takes place from 2 to 4 November.

Out of the Kitchen was the
brainchild of Chef Frederic Morineau, executive chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand

“We came up with the idea of having
a gala dinner so not only the cooks and the professional people enjoy it, but
also the public are able to come into a big ballroom and be able to have pretty
much the whole culinary world of Grand Cayman cooking for them that night,” he

Chef Frederic foresees some deals
being struck around the dinner tables as guests negotiate a starter at one
table and a main at the next.

A portion of the funds raised will
go toward the Cayman Culinary Society and The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman’s
Culinary Arts Scholarship.

“The money we are going to raise
through that event is to create a scholarship for a local Caymanian to go to be
in the culinary school of Johnson & Wales University,” said Chef Frederic.

Tickets are $120 per person and
include an exclusive three-course menu with wine and a dessert buffet.

Prime Cuts & Sunsets, Abacus, Agua Restaurant & Lounge, Blue by Eric
Ripert, The Brasserie, Bacchus, Calypso Grill, Cracked Conch, Grand Old House,
Harvey’s Island Grill, Hemingway’s, Icoa Fine Foods, Luca, Marriott Beach Resort,
Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink, Ortanique, Ristorante Pappagallo, The Westin
Casuarina Resort and The Wharf.
