Join one artists visual journey

Better known locally for treading
the boards in many a Cayman Drama Society production and as a talented amateur
director, Sue Howe has gone from actor, to auteur to artist with the mounting
of her first solo show.

The exhibit, From Beginning to End,
seeks to take viewers along on the artist’s creative journey, Mrs. Howe said.

Her vision

“I chose the title because it
summed up the process of where the idea for the painting started, and its
process from beginning to its end result — from photos, drawings, chalk drawings
on canvas and additional photos of the paintings’ various steps to completion,”
she said.

Featuring 34 oil paintings covering
various themes, sizes and subjects, the exhibit offers plenty of variety.

“I’ve tried to involve what I
usually do, which is predominately realism, with some smaller abstracts
included,” said Mrs. Howe. “My inspirations are people, the landscape, and the
sea.”

Her background

Originally from Western Canada,
Mrs. Howe has lived in Grand Cayman for nearly 20 years and has been painting
for a decade.

“I’ve really only hit my stride and
style over the last three years or so,” The Breakers resident said. “I’m pretty
much self-taught, so although I have benefitted from workshops with the Visual
Arts Society, the National Gallery… I’ve really found my style with oil
paint.”

She said of painting, “It’s one of
those things in life that I find makes me incredibly happy… I hope visitors
to the exhibition enjoy viewing my work as much as I have creating it.”

According to the show’s curator,
Nickola McCoy-Snell, “The exhibition is a visual journey into the head of the
artist. One that every art lover and artist should experience.”
