In advance of the holiday season,
the Cayman Islands Postal Service will be placing a chart in post office boxes
and at district post office counters listing its latest sending dates for
various classes of mail.
To make the process a little
easier, the postal service is providing customers with Christmas posting
reminder mailing dates on its website, www.caymanpost.gov.ky, or call 949-2474
For instance, for air parcels to
all countries, the last mailing date for packages to arrive before Christmas is
Friday, 19 November. For the United Kingdom and Western Europe it is Friday, 26
November. The last mailing date for parcels to the United States, Canada and
most of the Caribbean is Friday, 3 December.
Surface mail deadlines to all other
countries, United Kingdom and Western Europe is Monday, 8 November. The last
mailing date for surface mail packages to arrive before Christmas to the United
States, Canada and most of the Caribbean is Friday, 19 November.
Express Mail Service mailing
deadlines are: To all other countries – Friday, 3 December; United Kingdom and
Western Europe – Friday, 10 December, and United States, Canada and most of the
Caribbean – Tuesday, 14 December. For regular air mail, the mailing deadlines are:
All other countries and UK and West Europe – Thursday, 2 December and for the
US, Canada and most of the Caribbean – Friday, 10 December.
Customers have a bit more time to
post their local cards and gifts. Within Grand Cayman, the deadline is Monday, 20
December; between islands – Grand Cayman and Sister Islands, the deadline is 17
December, and if posting within the Sister Islands, the last mailing date is
Wednesday, 22 December.
“These dates are just guidelines
and we really encourage customers to post early,” said Deputy Postmaster
General Melissa Martinez-Ebanks.
“Please note that Christmas is the
busiest time of the year for any postal administration. For example, the CIPS
handles 180,000 pieces of mail during the Christmas season, whereas in June we
sort less that 100,000 a week,” she said.
“So to avoid disappointment, please
post early,” she emphasised.
