As part of its Community
Appreciation Week activities, RBC Royal Bank of Canada awarded a special
CI$4,000 grant to the Department of Children and Family Services. The grant
recipients were selected by RBC clients through a special ballot. RBC also
contributed CI$1,000 to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, as the runner-up.
“We are thrilled to be able to
recognise both of these organisations with grants to support their work in our
community,” said Jason Waters, vice president and country head for RBC in the
Cayman Islands. “We want to thank all clients and community members who stopped
by our banking centres during the week of October 4 to place their vote and
show their support for these worthy causes.”
Deanna Lookloy, director of the
Department of Children and Family Services, welcomed the donation. “We
sincerely thank RBC for its support of our organisation and the Cayman
community,” she said. “We will certainly be able to use the funds to assist
with our local programmes benefiting families in need.” Mrs. Lookloy and Mrs.
Lynda Mitchell, disaster services coordinator of the Department of Children and
Family Services, were on hand at the cheque presentation on 22 October and
accepted the donation on behalf of the organisation.
The Department of Children and
Family Services provides support and care for vulnerable children and families
in the Cayman Islands. It also offers broad services, including teaching
children how to conduct themselves well, training in child protection, senior
health fairs, the management of hurricane shelters and more.
During its Community Appreciation
Week from 4-8 October, RBC was organised a series of events to make a
meaningful difference for the community. The company donated $500 to Meals on
Wheels and launched its plan to provide further volunteer service to this
cause. RBC has been one of the longest corporate sponsors of this programme,
and employees have been delivering meals since 2000. On 6 October more than 15
RBC staff donated their time to help beautify the South Sound Community Park
and helped clean up the surrounding area.
“Each of these programmes
reinforces our commitment to giving back to our local community,” said Mr.
Waters. “We also enjoyed hosting community members at our ‘Flavours of our
Neighbourhood’ events during our Client Appreciation Day on 7 October. Events
like this demonstrate how important our clients and neighbours are to us.” Approximately
300 clients and community members stopped by the local branch offices from 11.30am
to 1.30pm, where they were treated to food and entertainment from the local
neighbourhoods, the bank said in a press statement.
