Dust off your dancing shoes and get
ready for Rotary Central’s annual Music Extravaganza.
The swingin’ and swayin’ will take
place at Grand Harbour’s Brick House on Saturday, 27 November, featuring three
of the island’s favourite bands.
The fantastic fundraiser will offer
music by The Vagabonds; Red, White and Blues; and Sea N’ B from 7pm until
midnight.
Acoustic trio The Vagabonds, led by
local personality and musician Eden Hurlston, will start the evening with some
original music and a mix where “reggae meets rock meets jazz” to get the crowd
up out of their chairs and onto the dance floor.
Hurlston will handle percussion,
sharing the vocal chores with bandmates Kingsley Donalds on acoustic guitar and
bass, and Stan Trahan on guitar and acoustic bass.
The 90-minute set is likely to see
a couple of guests’ drop-in, Mr. Hurlston says. Cayman’s saxophone aficionado
Gary Ebanks and electric and acoustic guitarist Zack Mack will sit in with the
Vagabonds, kicking the trio into high gear.
Next up: Bob Moseley’s rhythmn,
rock and blues outfit, Red, White and Blues.
With Moseley on lead guitar and
vocals, accompanied by Blake Hurlston on bass and vocals, and drummer Don
Foster, the quartet, together almost seven years, is “prepared to rock the
house,” says Moseley.
Driven by the blues and classic
rock ‘n’ roll, the quartet is a familiar sight, not only at the Brick House,
but also the Havana Club, Camana Bay and the Macabuca Tiki Bar.
Musical fixtures Sea‘n’ B will cap
the evening, dishing an eclectic mix of calypso, soca, country and straight
Caribbean rhythms. Electric and acoustic guitarist extraordinaire Chuck Quappe
and his percussionist partner Barrie Quappe will do an hour-and-a-half set,
accompanied by drummer Mark McTaggart and bassist Roger “Bugs” Wilson, lighting
the night with a tested repertoire of favourites.
“The Music Extravaganza is a
special night of community solidarity and entertainment, all to the tune of
talented local musicians. The evening also provides vital support for the
projects and the people of the Cayman Islands,” said Ravi Kapoor, Rotary
Central vice president and event coordinator.
Rotary Central has sponsored the
annual gala since 1995. Proceeds go to community causes.
Tickets are $25, and are available from Funky Tangs, Rotary members
and other re-sellers, and qualify holders for a grand draw and a first prize of
$40,000. Another 10 prizes of $1,000 each and many others will be awarded during
the evening. For more information please visit www.rotarycentral.ky
