Are you the face of Cayman?

YouTube video host sought

Young Caymanians with talent and local knowledge are being sought to host a special set of videos about the Islands.

The initiative was introduced by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and is intended to improve the appearance and content of the Cayman Islands YouTube channel. It is also aimed at attracting as many hits as possible while delivering videos the department says will be aligned with the Cayman Islands brand.

To qualify, you must be Caymanian between the ages of 21 and 35 and know about Cayman’s attractions, activities and history. In addition, it helps to have a vivacious personality, be comfortable in front of the camera, have an ability to swim and be comfortable wearing swimwear, and to have your own transportation and a valid driver’s licence.

A clean police record must be provided.

Filming will take place between 2 and 13 May.

How to audition

Those who audition will need a computer with an Internet connection, a webcam or the ability to upload video and a YouTube account, which can be set up specially for the audition.

The audition should follow the theme Nightlife in Cayman, with a video between one and three minutes in length. Some key points are that Cayman has evening entertainment, there are more than 150 restaurants, a growing music scene and something for everyone. Those who audition must come up with their own script. The finished video should be sent to DOTAuditions2011.

The project

Cline Glidden of the Ministerial Council for Tourism and Development explained the focus of the project.

“The overarching goal of this initiative is to produce a series of intriguing videos about the Cayman Islands which will play a part in helping to drive visitation and create more awareness about the destination. Each video will be culturally driven and will focus on highlighting various attractions, people and places across all three islands.

“Additionally, as the videos will intentionally be recorded in an informal and entertaining manner and will highlight the real essence of Cayman… they provide the perfect avenue for some of our young people to showcase their talents and become involved,” he said.

The audition period runs until Friday, 15 May. More details are on

The winner will be announced by the first week of May and filming will commence in a variety of locations around the island.
