The Stingray Tourism Awards will be held on Tuesday, 21 June, this year.
The ceremony recognises excellence within all sectors of the tourism industry and was last held in November 2010. Following discussions with stakeholders, it was decided to move the date forward.
Erin Bodden, project and marketing manager at the Cayman Islands Tourism Association, said there were definite reasons for the altered date.
“There was a general feeling that the awards ceremony is one that takes place in the height of gala dinner season, and right after slow season gearing up for high season.
“It made sense to recognise these hard-working individuals following a busy high season rather than after many return from vacation. Additionally, there were less events to compete with around this time,” she said.
Deadline for submissions for the awards is Monday, 30 May, added Ms Bodden.
The categories are designed to reward an employee and a manager from each of the tourism association sectors.
They include accommodations employee and manager of the year; watersports employee and manager of the year; restaurant employee and manager of the year; transportation employee and manager of the year.
In addition, any Allied member business can nominate an employee and a manager. This category includes: retail, suppliers, distributors, media and industry services.
There are also excellence in tourism awards, which include lifetime achievement, for those with 25 years or more in the industry; long service or special contribution award, for those with 15 years or more in the industry; and the rising star of tourism award for those age 30 or younger within the industry.
