Ignition has been selected to assist the Cayman Islands public sector in the move to electronic records management by providing services to scan and index more than half a million documents for the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands.
With offices and inspectors operating all over the world, the MACI needs to be able to share and manage information systematically across a wide geographical area. One of the best strategies is to provide digital access to records in an Enterprise Content Management system, Ignition said in a statement.
Ignition’s scanning team creates high-quality images of MACI’s paper files, in a controlled workflow process. These images are captured into the ECM system and managed according to government and international standards.
“We’re really pleased to support MACI in their move to an ECM system,” said Sonya Sherman, a senior records consultant at Ignition. “Daily use of digitised documents can protect fragile paper originals from damage caused by excess handling. They are also easier to backup, as part of a regular plan for business continuity and disaster recovery.”
The digitised documents can be used concurrently, by multiple users, to share knowledge across various locations. This can significantly increase business efficiency and improve customer service.
