ICO offers FOI training

While the Information Commissioner’s Office already conducts a number of different training sessions and presentations to both the public and private sector throughout the year, it will be offering a new training option during the months of October and November, which will be specially tailored for the public at large.

The FOI Law provides a general right of access to records held by government. In order for applicants to understand their rights and what they should expect when making an FOI request, it is imperative that they understand some FOI basics.

Public authorities are required to adhere to strict deadlines when responding to requests. However it is also important for applicants to be aware of these deadlines so that the process progresses as intended.

The ICO is not able to advise applicants or speak specifically about any ongoing requests as the matter may be appealed to their office; they are, however, able to guide the public through each stage of the FOI process.

The classes will take place on 18 October and 22 November and will run from 5.30-6.30pm. For more information, or to register, please contact the ICO at 747-5402.
