Be crochet-y, not crotchety

Franscine Conolly leads the way in a special visitor’s craft session on Cayman Brac on Wednesday, 25 October.

The crochet expert will be demonstrating her skills at the Alexander Hotel from 3.30pm to 5pm and the event is free, according to Saskia Edwards of Cayman Brac Heritage House.

“A member of the Sew & So Club here on the Brac, Mrs. Franscine enjoys socialising with others and sharing her craft. During one of our visitor craft sessions, Mrs. Francine helps visitors to crochet by first teaching them the basics and making a chain. She often brings some of her own items to display such as pillows, blankets et cetera.”

The weekly craft programme hosted by the Cayman Brac Heritage House allows tourists to the Brac an opportunity to interact with local artisans whilst learning about Caymanian culture through a particular craft. Everyone is welcomed to join, Saskia tells us.

“During a session guests are told about the historical significance behind the items they make and the materials that are used. In addition to creating a one-of-a-kind souvenir, this great social activity leaves participants with a fun, educational experience and deep appreciation for Caymanian culture.”
