“It’s that time of year again” is a phrase we seem to say earlier and earlier each year. With Christmas merchandise available in stores as early as October and Holiday commercials and movies already airing on TV, could it be that retailers and consumers alike just need to get that warm and fuzzy feeling sooner than later to escape the blues? After all, the economy certainly hasn’t gotten any better, and times continue to be tough for a lot of families. Somehow, just knowing that Christmas is around the corner just seems to brighten up the moods of most people. Most. For others, it can become a very stressful time, especially for families trying to make ends meet. Many wondering if Santa is going to visit their house this year.
When the “Blake & Erin” Morning Show first aired on X107.1 last October, a goal we had was to use it as a platform to give back to the community. One of the ways we decided to do this was to launch a programme called “Blake & Erin’s Christmas Wish”. The idea is to receive nominations for families in our community that might be facing tough times during the Christmas season. A family that could really use some serious help and have a prayer answered. A family that could have their Christmas wishes granted. The only catch is, you can’t nominate yourself.
Tremendous sponsors
Last year, with our tremendous sponsors, we were able to help two families that were facing tough times. Once we received the nominations, we were able to find out the needs of the families and then put together a plan of action to help each one. On the morning that we surprised the individual family, our X107.1 Street Team showed up to their house with our van full of goodies. Some of which included presents for the kids, presents for Mom and Dad, even a Christmas tree with lights to put the presents under. We also arranged to have some bills paid, included gift certificates to local grocery stores and helped out with some basic needs, like having glasses made for one child who was having trouble seeing in class. That nomination actually came from the little girl’s teacher.
Whether it’s giving awareness to charities, winning free tickets to an event that you may not otherwise afford to be able to go to, or just a laugh to brighten your morning, we feel blessed each day to be on the air in the Grand Cayman community.
This year we hope to help even more families in need.
If you know of a family in need this year and would like to nominate them for Blake & Erin’s Christmas Wish, please send us an email describing why you are nominating that family to [email protected].
