Tennis in the Cayman Islands will see its first major event for 2012.
This week the Cayman Islands Tennis Club is excited to host the 2012 PWC Cayman Islands Open tennis tournament and the 2012 PWC Men’s Invitational Championships. This year, there will essentially be two very exciting tournaments that will take place back to back within weeks of each other between 20 January and 4 February.
Currently taking place is the PWC Cayman Islands Open, which wraps up 28 January. This tournament is being offered to anyone on the Island who would like to play in the men’s and women’s open divisions as will as a men’s 50s and over divisions. The top qualifiers of the men’s open will then be invited to take on and participate in the 2012 men’s invitational championships, which will field quite possibly the largest amount of talent the open has seen in past years and is expected to be more exciting and competitive than last year’s tournament.
Already the Cayman Islands Tennis Club has been in contact with some international participants for this year’s tournament. Last year’s champion Marcio Torres is expected to defend last year’s title.
The Cayman Islands Tennis Club expresses their deepest gratitude to tournament main sponsor PWC. This will be their sixth year sponsoring the event and without them it would have been impossible to stage such a successful tournament. The tennis club, which is under the leadership of club manager Rob Seward and assistant pros Dale Avery and Adam Bayley, is also very excited to have Cayman National Bank for a first year of sponsoring the invitational tournament that will be at the club on 31 January.
Scotia Bank will also be sponsoring their third junior clinic, which will be offered on Saturday, 28 January at the tennis club. This clinic will be from 8am to 9:30am and is free to all of the juniors in Cayman. This is where some of our local juniors and adults can come down and participate in a clinic with some of the visiting pros.
