Day of activities at Mary Miller Hall
Celebrate Our Youth Day takes place from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, 28 January, at the Mary Miller Hall in Red Bay.
Activities include performances by young talent in music, dance and speech. There also are sports exhibits such as karate as well as a fashion show, bingo and other games.
More than 40 organisations will have display booths to visit, with information about their programmes, said Sylvia Wilks. She is the director of the Cayman Islands Youth Development Consortium that is organising the event.
“We have invited 20 key government/community leaders and 20 students as cosigners of the Supporting Cayman Youth Campaign,” she said. The opening of this event will start with a procession for all cosignatories to sign the proclamation and place a block representing a developmental asset.
“Co-signing this document will indicate that they support this national celebration of partnerships and opportunities and also show that they believe in the importance of these opportunities for the success of our young people,” Ms Wilks said.
The event is designed to encourage people to engage in or support innovative youth programmes and asset building activities that ensure the holistic development and well being of our youth, she said.
Admission is free. Lunch and refreshments will be on sale.
