Frasers will be in contention

Olympic swimming brother Shaune and Brett Fraser are in great shape as the London Games approach in July.

They train with other world class swimmers at the University of Florida in Miami and will certainly be in contention.

Shaune said: “Our training is going very smoothly at the moment. We just finished an intense two four-week cycle of training.

“We are now entering more of the competition phase, as we have two meets approaching.”

They were in the Florida Senior Championships over the weekend and will compete in the Florida Sectional Championships from 17-19 March.

Shaune won the 100 metres butterfly and was second in the 100m free and placed fifth in the 200m free.

Brett won the 100m freestyle and was fourth in the 200m free.

Next month, their main competition will be their teammates from the University of Florida like Ryan Lochte, Peter Vanderkaay and Conor Dwyer.

“We will then enter another training cycle before heading to a higher profile meet, which is the Indianapolis Grand Prix from 29-31 March,” Shaune said.

“It is a part of the USA Swimming Grand Prix Circuit.

“This meet will include some of the best in the world and the coaching staff here is using this meet as a key indicator of performance leading into the last couple months of preparation.

“I can confidently say for my brother and I that this is the most serious we have ever taken our training.

“Having graduated from school and with our sole focus on swimming, we are able to channel all of our efforts into preparing ourselves to perform at the highest level.

“Not only do we want to head into the 2012 Olympics wanting to do well, but we want to make our country and our supporters back in the Cayman Islands, proud as well.

“It has been a four year process to get to this point of our career and we have not taken a break from training in over a year now.

“We have to approach every day of training as if we are in the final stages of preparation because the clock is ticking.”

The brothers will be back in the Cayman Islands, sometime during the week of 19-24 March.
