Cayman Islands Little League AA action was recently inspired by some magic from Europe.
The Field of Dreams facility would see Pizza Hut down Maples 10-6 while Crighton beat CIBC 9-5 last Saturday. Of the four squads, it seemed Pizza Hut had the ‘Luck of the Irish’ on St. Patty’s day.
Pizza Hut were in fact lucky to win after trailing most of the game, scoring six runs in the sixth inning. Pizza Hut had clutch hitting and good base-running from Justin Derrick, Miguel Rodriguez, Adam McWatt and Zach Bodden to keep the game close. The Player of the Game was Mario “Super Mario” Ebanks, whose pitching held Maples to no runs in the last two innings to seal the win.
The Crighton Sluggers came out victorious against the CIBC “Baseball Crushers” with a juggernaut offence. The CIBC boys played well but it wasn’t enough to overcome the powerful Crighton bats which were simply too hot to stop.
Everton Allen turned a double play at third base, RaShawn Powery continued his homer streak with home run number three of the season, Geordi Forrester made an excellent relay throw from centre-field to throw out a runner at second base and catcher Jevon Forbes threw out a runner attempting a steal at second for Crighton.
The second inning proved to be the most exciting for Crighton as five runs were scored by Zion Coe, Alaye McLaughlin, Joshua Gonzalez and Daniel Manderson. It would be capped off with an impressive home run by Robert Davis.
Crighton played excellent defence and their hard work paid off. Omar Sanchez provided the most exciting play of the night when he got a phenomenal CIBC player out at the home plate. Players of the game for Crighton were Robert Davis and Omar Sanchez.
