Fireman Ortiz set place alight

Alex Ortiz was a fireman and soldier and he certainly blazed a trail at the Laughter Lounge with gags, drawing heavily on his personal experiences. Ortiz also has a hilarious view on creating an adult version of Sesame Street, which would definitely not be appropriate for children.

He even created mirth over his son recovering from leukaemia and taking up karate. “I took it up, too, because when my son is 18 and a black belt with attitude I want to be able to still kick his ass!”

That kind of joke can only be found at the monthly Laughter Lounge, which returned for two shows over the weekend at the Long Room at the Vivendi in the Strand. New Yorker Kenny Williams topped the bill and his range included family relationships with particular emphasis on his wife forcing him to address health issues. One of his stock gags is phoning an ex-lover to inform her that she has a sexually transmitted disease.

Executive Class promoters Rod Jefferson and Brad Watts have established this entertainment gem. Don’t miss next month’s on 25 and 26 May.
