Developing a healthier diet without extra expenses

Developing a healthier way of eating does not need to be overly expensive.

Even organic foods are not as steep in price when you compare. Eating well is an investment in your life and the life of your family.

Making sensible food choices today is preventative medicine; diabetes, cancer, arthritis, heart problems and many more conditions are linked closely to diet. Simple steps you can take to improve how you eat without extra costs include:

Shop local. Food fairs and road side vendors offer a new option in shopping; it’s wonderful.

Grow a few things of your own – a basil plant, tomato vine.

Eat natural foods that grow; things from the garden and earth.

Convenience, pre-packaged foods (pizza and microwave dishes) are all highly priced – you pay for the convenience. The ingredients are also another ‘kettle of fish’ with high preservatives or fat. Is this value for your dollar?

Other simple steps to not overspending include: Avoid shopping when hungry; make a shopping list and stick with it; buy items in bulk, especially when on special; limit treats – your children don’t need all that junk; become educated about food products and choose quality products that provide the best nutrition even if a little higher in price. You are worth good food.

Look at how you are thinking – do you think you cannot afford the lovely organic food and then buy a chocolate bar and Pepsi on the way out of the supermarket?
