Rosemarie Wilson has another shot at a national netball championship game berth.
The star Rising Stars A shooter leads her club into the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league elimination round. Wilson and company are in the semi-finals against All-Stars A, sponsored by Central Cooling.
The Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts hosts the encounter on Thursday, 17 May, at 6.30pm. The contest features a pair of stellar teams who were third and second in the league, respectively. RSA featured a formidable offence steadied by Wilson and Marcia Moiten while ASA had a well-balanced side that had strong attackers like Pauline Bodden and athletic defenders like Kimesha Walters.
Both teams are competing in the championship bracket of the playoffs and are fighting for a berth in the national title game. Thursday’s winner will face defending two-time champions Roma A in the finale on 2 June.
Roma cruised to a 58-41 victory over Cayman National Bank All-Stars B last Saturday. Behind star scorer Kay Copeland, Roma enjoyed leads of 14-8 and 20-10 in the first half and never looked back.
Thursday’s loser will take on the CNB All-Stars for the third place prize next Saturday, 26 May.
After Thursday’s contest, the playoffs are slated to resume next Thursday, 24 May. Roma B battle the Ernst and Young Hot Shots to determine ninth and 10th place (both finished with one victory apiece) while Unity A faces Rising Stars B for a spot in the plate division final on 2 June.
Flames Strikers booked their spot in the consolation title game after beating Unity B 54-13 last Saturday. Flames had leads of 16-5, 11-2 in the first half and dominated from there. Unity now play in the third place contest next Saturday, 26 May.
