Are you an underwater filmmaker?

At the eighth Annual International Underwater Film Festival this November, short films from local talent will be shown. The Cayman Islands Tourism Association says it invites local videographers to submit their entry for consideration by the Underwater Film Festival committee.

Submissions of the short videos/films will be accepted from 1 July until 1 September. The selected film/films will be announced in October and will be shown at the International Underwater Film Festival on Thursday, November 8, 2012.

Every year, underwater films are shown to an audience of about 200 attendees. In recent years, many of the films presented have been by inductees to the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame – induction will take place on Wednesday, 7 November – as well as other renowned underwater film makers.

This year, the association says it would like to add a local flavour to the festival and invites local filmmakers – professional or amateur – to submit entries for the opportunity to screen their short underwater film at this event.

The Divers Alert Network is teaming up with the association as the presenting sponsor of the 2012 International Underwater Film Festival. Proceeds from this event go toward the tourism association’s marine conservation initiatives and efforts to promote diver safety.
