Ping Pong plots course

The Cayman Islands Table Tennis Association hopes an international coach will improve the sport here.

The association is hosting a level one coaching course on 20-29 July at the University College of the Cayman Islands multi-purpose hall. This course will be geared toward preparing and certifying local coaches to that intermediate accredited standard of the International Table Tennis Federation.

Leading the sessions will be Georg Silberschmidt from the international federation’s development committee. The swiss national has been around the world leading table tennis courses, including to Madagascar earlier this year. He was in the Caribbean last summer, helping out table tennis in locales like St. Kitts.

Next month’s initiative in Cayman is to ensure that the sport of table tennis will continuously be taught by qualified coaches and played throughout the Cayman Islands at various levels.

More importantly, it is a further step to realize the local table tennis association’s mission to target and prepare our youth, both male and female, from the beginner ranks through to competitive levels.

This course is open to all and registration is free. Registration forms should be completed and returned to course coordinator Leigh Hipkins at [email protected] or call 345-936-1981. The deadline is 18 July.
