Chucklehounds, prick up your ears – those Laughter Lounge chaps are bringing in some seriously funny talent this weekend.
Yes, The Lioness Invasion hits Cayman on Friday, 31 August and features three of the best female comedians in the game in Bphlat – your host for the evening – plus Patricia Brown and Melanie Coamarcho.
As the Flyest Comedienne Around, B-Phlat’s personality is as big as her comedy. With high-profile appearances including HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Showtime’s Comics Without Borders and STARZ Channel’s Martin Lawrence Presents the 1st Amendment Comedy Show, to name a few, B-Phlat has been spreading her own unique blend of brassy, urban humour. Her comedy goes beyond laughs, as she strays from the norms of man-bashing and profanity and instead uses her hysterical routines to honestly examine her life, urging other women to both improve and empower themselves.
This sassy St. Louis native developed her tenacity and wit at an early age as a means to stand out as the only girl in family of four brothers. In order to escape the testosterone, B-Phlat moved to Philadelphia for grad school in 1992. It was here that her career launched three years later in 1995, when her friends signed her up for a talent show without her knowing. She hasn’t looked back since, continuing to draw her growing audiences into her funny tales of life, love, and happiness.
Putting fun back
Pat Brown’s motto is to put the fun back in funny. Pat’s style is smart silliness, wrapped in good-natured fun. And it’s this style, in conjunction with her bouncy energy and engaging smile, which has helped establish her universal appeal with black, white, corporate and even religious based crowds. Her comedic success can also be contributed to her clean content, unique delivery, quick wit and perfect pace which draw audiences in like sweet gossip.
It’s no wonder, that Pat’s talents are sought after as both comic and writer. In fact, she’s written for Black Entertainment Television, Comedian Rickey Smiley, Sommore, one of the Queens of Comedy, and countless others.
Melanie Comarcho is from Inglewood. She has appeared on Comedy Central and as part of the Def Comedy Jam Tourplus many TV shows including The Chris Rock Show, Vibe, The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show, Arsenio Hall and The Soul Train Comedy Awards. She has toured with Martin Lawrence, Rick James, Tom Joyner, Chris Tucker and Katt Williams.
