Even with the ongoing officiating debacle, the NFL continues to produce surprising contenders.
Among them is the Arizona Cardinals, who have baffled most experts with a 3-0 start. Quarterback Kevin Kolb has stepped up in a big way and James Sanders leads an opportunistic and aggressive defence.
The Cardinals are coming off a convincing 27-6 victory over Michael Vick’s Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday. With momentum on their side, it would seem they are a smart bet to go 4-0 against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday, 30 September, at 3.05pm on CBS. The Dolphins are 1-2 and coming off a heart-breaking 23-20 overtime loss to the New York Jets.
Miami, though, have been surprisingly decent behind Ryan Tannehill and Reggie Bush, who figures to overcome a knee injury in time for Sunday. Dolphin fans in the Cayman Islands should be in good spirits this weekend after Miami finds a way to outwit the Arizona defence and squeeze out a victory by a field goal.
The other week four match-ups on Sunday worthy of note are the San Francisco 49ers against the New York Jets at 12noon on FOX and the New York Giants battling the Eagles at 7.20pm on NBC. All of the sides are 2-1 and were dominated in each of their losses this season.
In spite of being smashed by Adrian Peterson’s Minnesota Vikings last Sunday, Alex Smith still figures to rebound and get the best of Mark Sanchez and the Jets’ flaky offence by two touchdowns. Eli Manning’s Giants have the momentum after outplaying Cam Newton’s Carolina Panthers last Thursday and should beat Philly by a touchdown.
For the record, the Cleveland Browns battle the Baltimore Ravens at 7.20pm on Thursday, 27 September. However, it carries little intrigue as Ray Rice and company should propel Baltimore to victory by two touchdowns or more.
