Roach tamed battling Lions

An explosive opening partnership of 101 runs in 11 overs between Ricardo Roach 55 and Zachary McLaughlin 37 provided the Cayman Islands team with the platform for a big total against British and Irish Lions as the 2012 Challenge Trophy tournament got off to a brilliant start.

Ronald Ebanks 37 and Omar Willis 35 not out, followed and took the score to 194 for 4 wickets. Roach and McLaughlin began slowly testing the conditions and then accelerate playing a variety of excellent shots all-round the wicket.

Excellent spin bowling by the same pair of Roach and McLaughlin took 5 wickets and reduced the Lions to 80 all out giving the Cayman Islands team victory by 114 runs possibly the best start by any team over the years to this exciting off-season tournament.

In the second match Jamaica joined the Cayman Islands as winners defeating Guyana by 38 runs.

In Division 2 T20, a good all round performance gave Aims Consultants victory over Chillies in that division’s tournament.

In the women’s league, a keenly contested match at the John A Cumber school ground saw Greenies defeat Stingrays by 30 runs. Carmel Harms 53 and 2 for 17 together with Karen Thomas 32 proved too much for Stingrays.
