Track stars Asafa Powell, Warren Weir and Michael Frater are just some of the sport’s superstars who will be here this weekend for a fundraising lunch for the Cayman Islands Athletic Association.
Also on their way are Bahamian 4×400 metres gold medallist from the recent London Olympics and celebrated coach Glenn Mills of Racers Track Club who trains Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Weir. Mills is the world’s most successful sprint coach by a mile.
‘Dine with the Olympians Luncheon’ is at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort on Saturday from 11am-2pm. Tickets are $125.
Jamaican Powell comes in for Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who had to pull out at the last minute. Powell is the former world 100m record holder and is still one of the world’s greatest sprinters although injury has hampered his career in recent years.
Weir won bronze in the 200m behind Bolt and Blake making it a historic treble for Jamaica. Weir won the 200m at the inaugural Cayman Invitational in May.
Frater, another Jamaican, was a 4x100m world record holder and gold medallist at the London Games.
Dine with the Olympians Luncheon was put together by Cayman’s five-time Olympian sprinter Cydonie Mothersill who has known all of the guests for years.
