Sister Islands Registering Officer Ellen J. Lazzari is doing what her colleagues in Grand Cayman are doing – spending her Saturdays at public venues so that prospective voters can more conveniently register or change their registration details.
But Mrs. Lazzari is performing her task a little differently.
While her counterparts in the other five electoral districts have been able to station themselves and assistants at specific locations from 1 September until 1 December, Mrs. Lazzari has set up office at various points around Cayman Brac.
After a recent Saturday outside The Market Place with assistant Cathy Scott, she then set up at TibMart Gas Station in Watering Place on 17 November. On 24 November, she has arranged to be at Paramount Carpets in Spot Bay. Her Saturday drive ends at Brac Executive Services in West End on 1 December, when the women plan a grand finale of 9am to 5pm.
Of course, registration for the 2013 general election will continue until midnight on Wednesday, 2 January.
Supervisor of Elections Kearney Gomez confirmed Mrs. Lazzari’s appointment earlier this year to succeed veteran elections worker Georgene Lazzari. The senior Mrs. Lazzari is the new registering officer’s mother-in-law and a definite role model.
