Music school delighted with venue

Musicians Ltd School of Music and Performing Arts is deep into rehearsals for its forthcoming production of “The Little Mermaid”.

That’s one of the reasons why they’re so happy about their brand new rehearsal venue at Unit 4, Dorcy Drive Industrial Park.

“We put on a very successful High School Musical in 2012 at Prospect Playhouse,” says Janine Stabler. “We’ve been able to expand the music school and performing arts elements so we desperately needed a bigger space.”
Indeed, money raised from that sell-out run of the musical allowed the school to set up a scholarship fund and bursary programme, Janine adds.

“This has meant to we have been able to assist 10 Caymanian students financially this year giving them free tuition in both our instrumental and performing arts programme.”

The new location allows more students to join in the fun; the school moves on Saturday, 2 February and although it’s a “normal” working day, people are encouraged to come and check out the new venue.

“We hope parents will come and take a look. There will be nibbles and drinks to mark the occasion and we are open from 9am to 3pm,” Janine tells us.

As there are now five teaching rooms and a much bigger performing arts space, things really are looking up for the creative future of Cayman.

As for “The Little Mermaid”, the production cast has 50 youngsters involved in rehearsals.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Janine says. “And the bigger space is really exciting.”

“The Little Mermaid” is slated for the Prospect Playhouse from 23 to 26 May. Find out more from [email protected]
