Local food distributor Ashoka Premium Foods has donated 900 cartons of UHT milk, with a retail value of about $1,800, to a number of nonprofit organisations and government departments.
Ashoka Premium Foods, which was established about a year ago, and primarily distributes rice to local retailers, recently brought in a shipment of milk as a test run.
“Once the milk arrived here in Cayman and we had conducted the research that we needed, we didn’t want the milk to go to waste,” said Romesh Mirpuri, the company’s owner. “The Cayman Islands have been good to us and this was our way of giving something back.”
Mr. Mirpuri said he was keen to find a way to support and assist all generations in Cayman, and for that reason chose to divide the milk equally between four groups. The entities that received donated milk include the Department of Children and Family Services, the Pines Retirement Home, Children and Youth Services and Cayman Against Substance Abuse.
