Truman Bodden on track again

Local track and field athletes have a major meet this weekend for what promises to be another entertaining pair of sessions of high quality competition.

The Cayman Islands Athletic Association is hosting the annual Truman Bodden Track Meet on Friday, 1 March, beginning at 6pm and the following day starting at 9am at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

The meet is sponsored by Truman Bodden, the former Cayman Islands leader of government business who has staged the track and field event for more than 20 years. Bodden has been an enthusiastic supporter of track and field in the Cayman Islands and has assisted in obtaining corporate sponsorship from local businesses.

With the Inter-Primary Championships and 2013 CARIFTA looming, there will be a large turnout of athletes competing in preparation for the international season.

All athletes, both senior and junior, will turn out in hopes of qualifying for CARIFTA, Central American and Caribbean Age Group and IAAF World Youth.

The association is appealing for officials to come out and assist with the various events. All the usual sprints and field events will be contested.

Registration is open to ages 7 and above. Forms can be obtained by contacting Sana Tugman at 924-1649, coach Williams at 925-1943 or coach Yen at 925-6917. Completed forms may be returned to any of them or to [email protected] Registration closes on Wednesday, 27 February at 6pm.
