Truman Bodden meet is next

The Cayman Islands Athletic Association is hosting the re-arranged annual Truman Bodden Track Meet this week.

It is over two evenings, on Thursday and Friday, 14 and 15 March, beginning both days at 6pm at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

Many top junior athletes competed over the weekend in the CUC meet. They included Tahj Lewis, Tiffany Cole, Jonathan Frederick, Jerome Bodden, Shayla Torres, Kiera McLaughlin, Brandon Johnson and Ashleigh Nalty.

The meet, which is sponsored by noted lawyer and former legislator Truman Bodden, has been staged for over 20 years and is one of the major meets on the association’s calendar.

Bodden has been an enthusiastic supporter of track and field in the Cayman Islands for decades and has assisted in obtaining corporate sponsorship.

With the Inter-Primary Championships looming, there will be a large turnout of local athletes competing at this meet in preparation for the international season. Both senior and junior athletes will participate in hope of qualifying for Central America and Caribbean Age Group Championships, the World Youth Championships and CARIFTA.

The events and age groups are the usual categories for major meets.

Registration is open to ages 7 and above and forms can be obtained by contacting Sana Tugman at 924-1649, coach Kenrick Williams on 925-1943 or coach Tyrone Yen on 925-6917. Completed forms may be returned to [email protected]. Registration closes on Tuesday, 12 March, at 6pm.
