With no new confirmed cases in nearly six weeks, the Public Health Department has declared that dengue season in the Cayman Islands is over.
In its latest update, the department reported that there had been no new suspected cases of dengue since 2 March, although the laboratory results of two earlier cases are still pending.
The department has been issuing regular weekly updates on the number of cases of dengue fever, but as the numbers have dropped off, the next update is scheduled for the first week of April “unless some unexpected activity occurs”.
Since the outbreak of dengue fever in Cayman started last September, there have 43 positive cases out of a total of 139 suspected cases.
The Public Health Department received results of four cases this week from the Caribbean Public Health Agency. None were positive for dengue.
During the weeks of February 17 to 23, and February 24 to March 2, there were two and three cases, respectively, under investigation, and none since then.
