A jog, a jig … it’s all Irish

That most beloved of all Irish celebrations, St. Patrick’s Day, falls on Sunday this year. That’s a pretty good excuse to start the festivities on, say, Friday, and just keep on going through the weekend.

Before you start the serious celebrations though, drinking green pints and dodging leprechauns, you can get in some health credit with the Irish Jog.

Give happy hour a miss today, and instead take a walk or run around the Britannia Golf Course. There will be plenty of opportunity to workout your liver the rest of the weekend.

A true island tradition, the St. Patrick’s Day Irish Jog is now in its 21st year, and is one of the most popular fundraising runs of the year. It attracted thousands of participants of all ages and abilities last year – from parents pushing strollers to serious runners.

A fair few will don some crazy hats, wigs and face paints, so expect some interesting sights out on the green this afternoon. The course begins in front of Britannia Bar & Grille Restaurant by Britannia Golf Course and finishes just on top of the course.

Registration is open right up until 5.15pm today at Britannia Golf Course, and it’s only $10 to enter.

You’ll get an emerald green T-shirt to wear and refreshments will be provided at the end of the course. There will also be some weird and wonderful accessories participants can help themselves to, to run in style.

Participants will all be entered in the draw for some fabulous spot prizes which include dinners for two, sunset sails and spa services.

Best of all, proceeds from the run go to a local charity each year. For 2013, the chosen charity is the Sunrise Adult Training Centre, so for just $10 you get a workout before the partying begins, as well as the chance to win some great prizes while supporting a worthy cause.

Jog on!
