Elections office issues registration cards update

The Elections Office has issued an advisory on voter registration cards and how registered electors may obtain one. The process for newly registered voters is different from the process for voters who already had a card issued.

The old voter ID cards have expired. All registered electors who were previously issued elector registration cards – and who have not recently filed a Form 13 to change their name, address or occupation – may now collect their new cards at the Elections Office in Grand Cayman and at the District Commissioner’s Office in Cayman Brac.

All voters who are still in possession of previously issued cards are requested to return them when collecting new cards.

Electors who have registered since October 2012 – or have recently changed their particulars – may apply for a voter registration card after 1 April. That is when the Official Register of Electors comes into effect for the general election.

Cards will be issued at the Elections Office until 10 May on a daily basis and in the districts on days to be announced.

Supervisor of Elections Kearney Gomez said that while the Elections Office would like for all registered electors to have their cards by polling day on Wednesday, 22 May, this may not be possible.

“Electors should be aware that this does not mean that they cannot vote,” Mr. Gomez emphasised.

All electors who are not able to obtain an electors registration card by 10 May are urged to have some form of photo ID to present to the polling officers at the polling stations. Examples include a driver’s licence or passport. Even expired electors registration cards are acceptable, he said.

The Elections Office is located on the second floor of the Smith Road Centre at 150 Smith Road.
